About the Nature Conservation Unit

The Nature Conservation Unit currently consists of 50 employees working in various areas.

The unit's mission is to achieve environmental quality goals and contribute to sustainable development in the county. The unit is tasked with protecting nature, managing the county's nature reserves and Natura 2000 areas, safeguarding water quality, managing large carnivores, and taking measures for endangered species. The unit also supports other units within the County Administrative Board with nature conservation expertise.

Job Responsibilities

The role of functional manager is directly subordinate to the unit manager. The position entails budget, operational, personnel, and work environment responsibilities for the function.

You will lead and distribute the ongoing work. An important part is making decisions primarily according to the Environmental Code and hunting laws, along with associated regulations and directives. You are responsible for developing supervision within the function's areas. Other tasks may also arise.

The position also includes responsibility for certain overarching assignments, such as environmental goal follow-up and coordination of terrestrial environmental monitoring.

You are present in your leadership and create participation in daily work while making prioritizations in the operation in dialogue with employees. You lead experts with extensive knowledge and long experience who take significant personal responsibility.

You will be part of the management group of the Nature Conservation Unit, which will consist of four people including you, where we support each other in solving the unit's assignments. As a functional manager, you will contribute to the entire unit's mission, budget, and reporting.

The work involves many internal and external contacts, including with central, regional, and local authorities as well as interest organizations. The work also includes contacts with the media, landowners, and the public.

Qualifications

Requirements

You must have an academic degree with a focus on subjects relevant to the function or another academic degree that the employer assesses as equivalent.

You should also have training in, or several years of experience with, the Environmental Code.

You express yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and have the ability to convey the function's work and responsibilities to staff, partners, and the media.

A valid driver's license (B) is required for this position.

Meritorious

It is advantageous if you have previously been a manager with personnel responsibility. Also, if you have experience in handling environmental, nature, and/or wildlife matters.

The unit has a complex and large economy, which the unit's managers handle together. Therefore, it is advantageous if you have experience with financial responsibility within a larger organization.

Personal Qualities

We place great importance on personal qualities, and to succeed in the role of functional manager, you need to be confident in your role as a leader and create participation and consensus around the priorities of the operation through your leadership.

The operation is largely event-driven, but there is also a need for self-initiated supervision, so you as a manager need to help the operation prioritize and make decisions about direction. As a person, you are structured and maintain calm in pressured situations.

It is important that you are curious, open, and development-oriented to contribute to the development of the County Administrative Board as a modern and legally secure authority.

Conditions

The employment entails trust-based working hours.

The County Administrative Board applies a six-month probationary period for this position.

The position may be placed in a security class, which means that we conduct a security review with a background check according to the provisions of the Security Protection Act before the position is filled, and the requirement for the position is therefore Swedish citizenship. The position may also be part of the County Administrative Board's crisis management and wartime organization.
